Mushrooms and Apple Pies

Well, I have a little story to tell. About three weeks ago, my mum and I went to the hardware store. At the fron of the store were these bags of mushrom compost in them. I thought it would be great to buy a bag and bring it back and see if i could grow some mushrooms in a box under the house or something. Anyway, the bag was HEAVY. I thought i'd wait until I could get someone musclier to move it for me..... and promptly forgot about it. Anyway, I was about to put something in the boot so i wouldn't forget it and look what I found.

So you get a better idea of how big these babies are...

ummmm.... what can I say, apparrently my boot makes an ideal mushroom spot.

:) Have been having a very strange weekend of not doing much but reading and such. I did attempt to make a replca of some amazing apple pies I had when I was in adelaide. They were lush and had a really high top... I think that was what impressed me the most.

Here are my ickle pies as they are about to go in the oven.

I'd post the recipe, but it's basically stewed apple pie with a shortcrust base.. I forgot to take pictures AFTER they came out of the oven.... sorry, but rest assured they were yum. Am starting to think more seriously about the impending cristmas season, being that its not that long away.... if your a crafter that is. I got seriously freaked the other day when I had to write the date, and it was July already... ouch... where does the time go. Anyway blessings.

Why I can't make the bed :)

I knew there was a reason. Next time I need an excuse, i'll pull this one out. This weekend has been a pretty domestic one. I made some Spinach and Feta scones yesterday, which were quite yummo. I spent yesterday sewing, which is fun, and went out to the Ball and Chain resutarant for Melly Jelly's birthday. I did some paper craft making birthday cards and a baby shower card for Siana Jelly. So all in all a good weekend with lots of catching up. I always get a little self conscious going to Siana's mum's house, that Woman could put Martha Stewart to shame. I come home and look about, and have to tidy something. :) But Merrydith doesn't have cats, so I guess I am better placed to at least have an excuse why the beds aren't made.

Anyway, Today had Babby shower goodness. Am getting incredibly clucky, which is a bit dangerous. I'll have to watch some childbirth videos and get over it :)

Anyhoo, am off to look up gaelic baby names. BFN

Winter Solstice

Wow it's here again. this is one of my favorite times of year. I always get the urge to knit in this weather and watch 'Home Alone' while I do it. This is a little bit of a problem because I also have a tendency to want to read a book and drink cups of tea, and it seems like no matter what i decide to do i feel like i'm missing out on the other great things.... Not enough time...

I have finished two pieces of embroidery this week. I thought i'd give you a peek. One is at the top of the page and the other is here. I am going to frame these and they will probably end up as christmas presents. It's become a slght obsession. I love the simple stitches. These patterns are from Handmade Magazines Christmas in July edition.

The Gryphon and I are going to his Mum's for a winter solstice celebration tonight. It should be yummy.

O!

It happened again.... I am in complete awe of people who actually manage to update their blogs.... It seems i am quite shite at it :) oh well. I think that's ok seeing as i'm not even sure who reads it :).

I have a pic of my latest decorating effort :) I am quite pleased at how it turned out, I spotted the ladder about 100 metres away at a market, and I RAN to it... love the shabby chic thing!

Anyway, the world is a better place because it has a new citizen - welcome to the world. My friend Heather has finally had her Jelly baby, Jordana.
I have been really busy printing out pics, which means updating my photo albums which is cool. I love my phone, which has a 5. Megapixel camera attatched - so YAY. Here is my honey holding the baby - it's my secret plan to get him clucky :)

I made Jordana some baby bootees.... One can get a lot of satisfaction from knitting bootees. A lot gets done in such a short time... it's good for someone like me who has a short attention span :). Anyway, i made her some little pink Bootees with a feathers wool trim, and they were SOOOO cute ... Here they are on my hand to show you how cute and little they are :)
I went to a sale yesterday and brought a book called 'two stich knitting'. I can knit two stitches, so hopefully this will be for me :)
Anyway, gotta go and check out the Banana Bread I just pulled from the oven. Smells divine :)
here's the recipe in case you wanted to make it for yourself.
Banana Bread
2 over ripe bananas
2 tablespoons golden syrup
¾ cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup white self-raising flour
pinch of salt
METHOD 1. Pre heat oven to 180°C (160°C fan forced) and grease and line the base of a loaf pan. 2. In a medium bowl, mash bananas with a fork and add golden syrup. Stir in sugar, then the egg, sifted flour and salt and mix together until combined well. 3. Pour mixture into greased loaf pan and cook for 30 minutes or until the bread comes away from the side of the tin or a skewer inserted into the middle comes out clean. 4. Allow to cool in tin for 10 minutes, then turn onto wire rack.
Blessings to you.

Weekend

Had a quite but lovely weekend consisting of watching High School Musical, Cooking, and yesterday I decided I needed to do something a little crafty. I had a fight with a bout five big bumblebees (don’t worry, they remained unharmed, but the did freak me out slightly) and attacked my lavender bushes. I now have a plethora of lovely purple buds to play with, so am currently making beaded lavender bags. I have grand plans of making some lavender wreaths, but the bees need to leave me alone first J

My Emma Jelly found me such a cool site that has me excited about making some dollies!! Heres the link - http://zosomoto.tripod.com/.... I’m not sure wether to thank her or not as I feel a new obsession coming my way J

Am excited work wise for two reasons – Australia Day means Monday off – yay! And the week after I have some amazing Training planned with Michael White, the Guru of Narrative Therapy in Australia…. what bliss…
